WHICH ENGINEERED FLOORING IS RIGHT FOR me?

Engineered flooring is a fantastic alternative to solid parquet or traditional floorboards. With technology advancing on an almost daily basis, the engineered flooring ranges available have grown and continue to grow exponentially, meaning that it can often be a daunting task trying to determine which option is best suited to your needs. Engineered timber floors are also known as floating (or raft) floors, meaning that they are not fixed to the subfloor underneath. Rather, they are allowed to “float” as a timber sheet. This is one of their major advantages of solid timber floors, as they are quicker to install as there is typically no sanding or finishing involved and are therefore more cost effective. Below, we have given an easy to digest explanation of each type of engineered flooring and some pros and cons to assist you on your decision making journey.

Laminate Flooring

Laminate timber flooring is a type of synthetic product that is used to simulate a wooden floor. There has been a significant shift in the laminate flooring that is offered today, in that not only do they appear more realistic, they also have texture. The top layer is a photographic image of a particular timber species (to imitate natural or treated finishes) that is glued to an inner core which is usually composed of compressed wood fibres. Laminate flooring is generally scratch, stain and water resistant when appropriately cared for, and has a high traffic tolerance.

Laminate flooring is installed over a acoustical blanket underlay (typically 2mm thick) and use a click mechanism to fit the pieces together meaning once installed, the laminate flooring is ready to enjoy! engineered timber flooring

Engineered timber flooring is a type of flooring that consists of a timber veneer (often 3-6mm) that is fixed to a slat or plywood construction. Unlike laminate, engineered timber can be re-sanded and finished limited times if there is any damage to the timber veneer. Like laminate, it can be installed as a floating floor, however you have the added option of having it glued down to the subfloor, giving it a feel of solid timber flooring underfoot.

Engineered pre-finished parquet is fast becoming a popular choice, delivering a classic look and design statement into your home for the budget conscious. See something you like below? Give us a call or come and visit us in person at our showroom.
